I'm not sure if you know or not, but I've decided to help kids with cancer this year. If you have a second, can I explain a little bit about how you might be able to help, as well? If you don't have time or you aren't able to help, I definitely understand.
Every school day, 46 kids are diagnosed with some form of childhood cancer. It doesn't sound like much, right? Forty-six kids. Just imagine, though, two class rooms of kids. Every school day, two, more full classrooms of kids are diagnosed with cancer. In two weeks, a whole school would be filled with kids who have cancer.
Every day, we lose 7 of them. Again, it doesn't sound like much. But if you're one of the 2,555 families who have lost one of those 7, it's the biggest, most painful loss you'll ever feel.
We have a chance to help. To stop. To cure. To be a hero to heros fighting childhood cancer.
There's a charity bike ride coming up on June 11th--the Trek 100 Ride for Hope. It's sponsored by Trek Bicycle Corporation, a Wisconsin-based, international company and benefits the MACC Fund (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer - a 501(c)(3) non-profit).
I'm helping spread the word to support childhood cancer research. I'll tell you a little bit about the research in a second, but first I want to say: if you aren't able to give to the cause, that's okay. If you still want to help in some way, please consider volunteering for this event. Just click on the link and navigate to the Volunteer Registration. With 2,200 riders and 4 courses spanning over 200 miles, volunteers are needed.
Okay, now back to the research. If you are able to support me in my quest to help kids with cancer, here's where your money goes: to the MACC Fund. Right. What is the MACC Fund? It's a Wisconsin-based, non-profit organization that provides almost $3 million in research support every year to the Medical College of Wisconsin, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Wisconsin Institute of Medical Research.
Founded in 1976, the MACC Fund has donated over $53 million dollars to research. The Trek 100 Ride for Hope has been a huge part of that raising almost $13.2 million in its 26-year history. These important donations have helped to raise overall childhood cancer 5-year survival rate to 80%, with some cancer survival rates as high as 90%. A Scientific Advisory Board provides oversight to ensure that research dollars are being allocated correctly. You can find out more about the MACC Fund, by visiting their website at
If you are able to help kids with cancer, please just click on the link in this email and it will take you to my fundraising site. It's quick, it's fairly painless, and it's secure.
Again, if you are unable to help financially, please consider helping as a volunteer...or as a rider!
Thanks so much for your time!
